Get Ready for the Holiday Season with Microneedling

Ah, the holidays! A time of festivities, including visits with friends and family. During such a busy season, it may help if you can look your best with little effort. If so, you may want to consider microneedling now.

Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi offers both maxillofacial surgical services and cosmetic services through Defy Facial Spa, which is overseen by Dr. Michael Nichols. One of our most popular and effective services is microneedling

How microneedling works

Microneedling creates microscopic wounds on the face, triggering the body’s healing response. We use SkinPen®, an FDA-approved device that makes tiny punctures in your skin in targeted areas.

We administer an anesthetic beforehand so that you remain comfortable throughout your procedure. Depending on your goals, we may add serums, stem cells, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during the microneedling.

Why microneedling works

You might wonder why making tiny wounds in your skin is a good way to look your best during the holidays.

Let us explain: The microtears that the SkinPen makes cause your body to respond as it would to any wound — producing extra elastin and collagen, creating new skin cells, and leaving you looking fresh and better than before.

In the days and weeks following your procedure, you should notice that your skin appears smoother, tauter, and younger-looking. That’s thanks to your body’s natural healing response.

What happens after microneedling

You won’t see the results of microneedling right away. We provide you with thorough aftercare instructions so your skin heals properly. Once the microtears heal, you begin to notice fewer wrinkles, a more consistent and brighter complexion, and a more youthful appearance.

It takes a few days for you to heal after your procedure. Your skin may be tender, red, and swollen in the treatment area immediately afterward. Also, the results of increased collagen and elastin production don't appear right away.

What that means is if you schedule your appointment now, you can expect your refreshed look to be ready by the holiday season.

Some people need multiple treatments spaced out over several weeks, and others may benefit from other types of treatments in combination with microneedling.

Dr. Nichols and his staff consider your goals, skin type, and other factors before making treatment suggestions tailored to your situation.
