New Year, New You: Rejuvenate Your Look with a Brow Lift

New Year, New You: Rejuvenate Your Look with a Brow Lift

Do you worry that your appearance doesn’t reflect how you feel? A new year is a good time to consider cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate your look.

At Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi, Dr. Michael Nichols and his staff are happy to guide you through the process of deciding which procedures can help you achieve your goals.

Here, they take a closer look at an often-overlooked option, a brow lift

What’s a brow lift?

When you have a brow lift, Dr. Nichols repositions the tissues of your brows and forehead.

As people age, the fat and muscle in the forehead begin to sag, resulting in a brow that looks heavy. For some, the sagging is severe enough to obstruct their vision.

A brow lift restores the smoother, tauter look of your brows and forehead, helping your face look more balanced. The procedure can also result in fewer wrinkles.

How a brow lift works

Dr. Nichols makes a small incision, usually along your temple behind your hairline and above your brow. He then repositions the tissues, smoothing your skin and raising your brows.

Once everything is in position, he removes any excess skin and sutures your incision. Thanks to modern techniques, Dr. Nichols can use small incisions in your brow lift. That means you heal faster and are at a reduced risk of infection.

Healing after a brow lift

In most cases, Dr. Nichols removes your stitches about a week after your procedure. You may need antibiotics following surgery, and you may experience swelling and bruising. Ice compresses and elevation can help reduce swelling.

Any swelling and bruising should resolve within about two weeks. Then, you should be able to return to your daily routine.

Dr. Nichols conducts a final evaluation within a few months after your surgery.

The art of the brow lift

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, brow lifts are among the most variable facial procedures that surgeons perform, encompassing multiple techniques. The skill of your surgeon is crucially important. Dr. Nichols is experienced, highly trained, and knowledgeable.

Before your procedure, he makes sure he understands your goals for the brow lift. He then uses his expertise to give your brow a balanced and harmonious appearance.
