The Ultimate Guide to Refreshing Your Eyes
If the eyes are the window to the soul, what does it say when your eyes look exhausted? Whether you have undereye bags, sagging upper lids, wrinkles between your brows, or crow’s feet around the outer edges, you may look more tired or older than you are or feel.
Dr. Michael Nichols and the team at Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi understand how frustrating that can be. If you feel vibrant and youthful but look worn down, it can affect your quality of life. The good news is that our services can help refresh the appearance of your eyes.
At home
There are things you can do at home to refresh your tired-looking eyes. For example, staying hydrated does wonders for the delicate skin around your eyes. If you have a job that requires looking at screens for long periods, try the 20-20-20 method:
- Set a reminder to look away from your screen every 20 minutes
- During your break, look at something at least 20 feet away
- Keep looking at that object for at least 20 seconds
This routine can prevent eye strain, which can cause dark circles under your eyes. Eye strain can also make eyes feel gritty and tired; you feel better and look better when you take breaks.
You might also be surprised at how refreshing a few minutes with a cold washcloth over your eyes can be. It helps the blood vessels around your eyes constrict, which lessens puffiness. It feels really nice too!
Defy Facial Spa
Defy Facial Spa is part of Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi. Dr. Nichols and our licensed aesthetician, Lee Anne Watson, provide outstanding care to our patients.
A facial can leave you looking refreshed, and we offer services such as injectables that can help lessen the appearance of wrinkles — including those around your eyes.
Surgical procedures
If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, consider blepharoplasty, the medical name for eyelid surgery. Droopy upper lids can cause you to look tired even when you’re not, and can even obscure your vision. Droopy lower lids can cause puffy bags under your eyes.
Dr. Nichols also offers laser resurfacing of the eyelids, which could be an option if you’re not ready for blepharoplasty. And Botox® can treat wrinkles on the outside of your eyes.
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, but you need someone to drive you home and help you for at least 24 hours after. You can expect some swelling and maybe blurred vision. Within about two weeks, you should start to see the results of your procedure.
Whether you’re looking for a short-term fix or want to address problem areas permanently, schedule an appointment at Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi in Flowood, Mississippi. Our team can work with you to create a plan that best meets your needs.
