Is Facial Liposuction Right for Me?

Is Facial Liposuction Right for Me?

Most people associate liposuction with body contouring, but today, you can use it to change the appearance of your face and neck. If you’ve tried unsuccessfully to lose weight in your face, neck, or chin through diet and exercise, you may want to learn more about facial liposuction.

At Oral & Facial Surgery of Mississippi, Dr. Michael Nichols specializes in cosmetic and medically necessary surgeries, including facial liposuction. If you have bothersome fatty deposits in your cheeks or neck, facial liposuction could be a good way to address those areas.

Are you a candidate?

Facial liposuction works best for people with good skin tone. It’s not a treatment for obesity, and there’s a limit to how much fat we can remove at one time.

If you gain weight after your procedure, it’s likely to redeposit in the same areas. If that happens, you may need to repeat the procedure.

Many factors can affect your results, including:

We perform facial liposuction under general anesthesia. Full recovery takes about a month.

What can facial liposuction fix?

Do you have jowls? What about a turkey waddle? Are you bothered by your double chin? A good diet and regular exercise don’t generally affect these areas — but facial liposuction can.

In most cases, Dr. Nichols only removes a few ounces of fat, but the difference can be surprising. Patients who get facial liposuction end up with a more clearly defined jawline, no double chin, and less neck fat.

The procedure

Dr. Nichols performs facial liposuction in our surgical suite. It’s an outpatient procedure, so you go home the same day. Since you’re under general anesthesia, line up someone to drive you home.

Depending on what you’re having done, Dr. Nichols makes small incisions on your face or neck, in areas where they won’t be noticed. In most cases, facial liposuction takes about an hour.

When you get home, you need to wear a compression garment to apply pressure and minimize swelling. It can also help your skin retract.

You can expect to experience some swelling and bruising for about two weeks, though you should see results right away. Results become clearer as the swelling goes down.
